It's not surprising that David and Jonathan become very close very fast. A couple day's ago we read about Jonathan's great faith. Now with David's recent actions, Jonathan saw in David a man like himself--someone with great faith in the LORD, the Savior God.What a blessing that these men could rely on each other for strength during trying times. By putting his royal and military clothing on David, Jonathan showed David that, in his eyes, he was his equal. This might have even been an indication that Jonathan, in line to be the next king, understood and submitted to God's will that David would be the next king. Think about that! From a worldly standpoint Jonathan was in line to have it all if he could succeed his father as king, yet Jonathan was very much at peace--even joyful--knowing God's will was being fulfilled through David. What an excellent example for us!
