Jonathan's Great Faith

Jonathan, King Saul's son, shows himself to be a man of great faith throughout his life. Here is one of the first examples. The Philistines were gathering to attack Israel with "soldiers as numerous as the sand on the seashore" (1 Samuel 13:5). But Jonathan sensed an opportunity to serve the LORD. Even though it was just him and his armor bearer, his attitude was, "Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few." Jonathan surely had heard of the great victories God had granted Israel in the past over their enemies--and he had no doubt God would do it again.

What if we had that kind of trust in God--that God would be behind us all the way, covering for us as far as our earthly needs so that we could just focus on serving him? This is what God wants us to do (Malachi 3:10, Matthew 6:33). May we not pass on the joy that is our when we put our faith in him and then serve him with all of our heart and soul and strength.
