Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

The Relationship of Husband and Wife: Mutual Submission

The editor choose a very appropriate section header to Ephesians 5:21-33 today with "Mutual Submission." While God created the man first and then made the woman as his helper (Genesis 2:20-24)--and therefore instituted an order for both to follow--here the passages show that there certainly isn't favoritism in God's setting of these roles. For while the wife is to submit to and respect her husband, he is to follow the example of Christ's relationship to the Church--complete sacrificial love. If a husband's headship is defined by sacrificial love for his wife, she will have no problem at all submitting herself to his love just as Christians bask in the love of Christ.
