The Fear of the Lord is Wisdom
Job 28 talks about man's futile search for wisdom all over the planet until God finally point out in verse 28 that "The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding." This repeats the same important point made in Proverbs (1:7 and 9:10). Did you ever stop to think just how true this is? How would we ever have any orientation as to the what, where, when, why, and who of life if it weren't revealed to us in the Bible? And it seems all too easy to take for granted just how much order comes from Scriptural principles. For example, loving your neighbor as yourself is "the golden rule" even for non-believers and it goes a long way in keeping order in society. And I would argue that in areas where we are thinking we know better than God, bucking his wisdom, it shows in the disorder. Some of these areas include mismanaging our time and money for ourselves over God and other people, insisting in the redefinition of family to the detriment of children, and sulking at the roles God has given us and where he has placed us in life. When we build on a faulty foundation, rejecting God and his purposes, we drift quite a ways from wisdom.
