Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

Spies, Joshua

A couple other interesting things from today's reading:
  • Deuteronomy 1:22 provides some more context about the spy situation. Moses says, "Then all of you came to me and said, 'Let us send men ahead to spy out the land for us and bring back a report about the route we are to take and the towns we will come to.'" So it was the people's idea, not Gods, to send spies (which for me answers the question of why would God send spies in the first place--he was gracefully allowing the people's request).
  • Numbers 13:16 says "Moses gave Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua." The footnote in the Concordia Bible says Hoshea means "salvation." Joshua means "the LORD saves." A moving display of Moses' faith.
