Consequences of Bad Fellowship
A couple days ago I shared how God was upset with Jehosaphat for allying himself so closely with Ahab, an evil king who promoted rejection of God by embracing idolatry. Today we see some of the consequences of Jehosaphat's poor decision in fellowship. His son Jehoram, whom Jehosaphat had given in marriage to Ahab's daughter, shared Ahab's family's anti-God/pro-god worldview. Perhaps it was his Jehoram's brothers' disapproval of his rejection of his father's faith that caused them to end up being killed at the hand of the new king. But when all seemed lost, as is always the case, there is still the grace of God: "Nevertheless, because of the covenant the LORD had made with David, the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever." We'll be seeing in coming days and weeks just how faithful God is to his promises even as his chosen people rebel again and again and again.
