We regularly at Christmas hear the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14, "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." But how does the line that comes after it fit in? It says, "He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right."
Prophecies often work this way, with short-term predictions mixed in with long-term, even Messianic, predictions. The "curds and honey" prophecy appears to be about Isaiah himself having a son and, by the time he is 12 or 13 (the age under the law where he could determine right and wrong), the regular agricultural diet of the land would be devastated by Assyria so that the people would instead be eating curds and honey (see Isaiah 7:21-25).
