Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

Interpretation Helps for Isaiah 10-11

  • In Isaiah 10:17 "thorns and briers" refers to the Assyrian army. In 15-19 God is basically predicting that although the king of Assyria is boasting in his own strength, God will destroy his army with disease and fire.
  • In Isaiah 11:6-9 it is a reference to the effect of Jesus' gracious rule over believers on earth. The Holy Spirit will rule in our hearts to bring about peace not normally demonstrated in this sin-filled world.
  • Isaiah 11:12-16 again is talking about the New Testament era. Old hostilities will be gone as people come together seeking Christ. The swooping down and plundering (verse 14) is a reference to the success of the gospel in overtaking people's lives. The closing verses refer to another exodus like the Israelites leaving Egypt--this time it's God calling his people to himself.
