God's Judgment on Ahab through Jehu

In 2 Kings 9:6-10 God has Jehu anointed king and directs him to be the instrument of judgment on Ahab's family by destroying them all. Jehu faithfully carries out this calling and later in 2 Kings 10:30 God will tell Jehu that he did well. However, Jehu also went beyond the killing of Ahab's family: "So Jehu killed everyone in Jezreel who remained of the house of Ahab, as well as all his chief men, his close friends and his priests" (2 Kings 10:11). Jehu also kills King Ahaziah of Judah and 42 of his relatives (verses 12-14). Later through the prophet Hosea God will state that the house of Jehu will be punished for this additional uncalled-for "massacre at Jezreel."
