Only Son

In yesterday's reading of Abraham's Ultimate Test of Faith, it jumped out at me that God said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love." For one reason, Isaac is not his only son. Ishmael was also Abraham's son. In further reading of the Concordia Self Study Bible, Isaac is the "only son" with the covenant promise.
Secondly, these same words brought to mind John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave is one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Abraham's devotion is paralleled by God's love to us in Christ. ~Concordia Self Study Bible
