The last few readings have given us several great examples of God pleasing stewardship. To help build the temple, the Isrealites gave generously of thier time, talents and treasures. They also gave out of heartfelt gratitude for everything that the LORD had done for them. The word "willing" appears 5 times in chapter 35. They gave so generously that they had to be instructed to stop.
In today's reading we see how the LORD gave Bezalel and Ohihikua special artistic skill and the ability to engage in all kinds of craftmanship. Furthermore, he gave skill to "all of the craftsman". This reminds us that our talents and skill are gifts from God to be used for his glory and purpose.
The way God gave Bezalel and Ohihikua special artistic talents to serve him is also a comforting reminder of the value of lay people in the service to the Lord. We definitely honor our pastors and teachers, but God's Church also needs a variety of other skills dedicated to his work.
