Isaiah 42:1-7 introduces God's servant, his chosen one who will have God's Spirit, who is called in righteousness to be a covenant for the people (see Hebrews 9:13-15). These beautiful verses are talking about Jesus.
Contrast this with another of God's chosen servants, Israel, talked about in Isaiah 42:18-20--deaf and blind to God's message--and it becomes obvious why Jesus had to come to save all of us.
