None of the prophets to fallen Israel or Judah had it very good. All had a tough job to do. None were very popular with their audiences. The story of Jeremiah, in particular, motivates me because he openly expresses his fear to God, and God encourages him saying that he will be with Jeremiah and put his Word in his mouth.
Today God gives us his Word just like he gave it to Jeremiah, but now it is written down in the Bible. It's still awfully difficult to do as God calls us to do--to confront sin or even just to have a spiritual conversation. Living as a Christian and avoiding or opposing sin in America today will likely make you the oddball out in many situations, but God is with you, guiding you with his Word.
