Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

The Fall of Nineveh

In Nahum 1:8 the prophet says, "with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of Nineveh." Turns out he was right in more ways than one. Apparently the Assyrians had a reservoir upstream outside the city on a river that flowed through the city. The enemy, Medes and Babylonians, opened the river gates or dams so that the flood of water broke through the mud bricks of the wall where it entered and again where it left. Then troops flooded into the city. The gushing waters also collapsed a palace built along the river (Nahum 2:6). In addition to Nahum, this record of events was also preserved by the Greek historian Diodorus.
