Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

The Rapture?

In a section on the coming of the kingdom of God (Luke 17:20-37), in verses 34-35, it sounds like what we know from popular culture as the rapture: "Two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left." However, the Bible does not talk of a rapture where some get grabbed from the earth while others are left behind. The People's Bible explains it well by pointing out that Jesus just got done using the examples of Noah and Lot. Both were in situations where they were taken out of the situation just before judgment. In the same way at the judgment some will be rescued from destruction; others will face judgment.

On a separate note, when the disciples ask where this will take place (verse 37), Jesus answers, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather." In other words, where there are people deserving of judgment, they will be judged.
