Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

Two Step Healing of Blind Man

I was curious about the account in Mark 8:22-26, why it took Jesus two steps to give site to the blind man. First Jesus spit on the man's eyes and then touched him. When he asked "Do you see anything?" the man replied that people looked like trees walking around. The Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes and this time the man could see clearly.

The People's Bible for Mark suggests it was just the style Jesus used in this particular instance. He led the man to a quiet place. He worked with the man's sense of touch since he couldn't see. Perhaps the first step toward restored site got the man excited for the complete healing that would come next. However, in the end the reason isn't known for sure.
