"Angel of the LORD" = God Himself

In many places throughout the Old Testament there are appearances by the "angel of the LORD." This is God himself. In Genesis 16 this angel appears to Hagar (verses 7-12). Then notice in verse 13 that it's clear this angel is the LORD himself: "She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: 'You are the God who sees me,' for she said, 'I have now seen the One who sees me.'"
