The Most Important Qualification for Marriage

Genesis 6:1-3 says, "When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, 'My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

The "sons of God" are believers and the "daughters of men" are unbelievers. Regarding the choices these "sons of God" were making in choosing wives, the People's Bible says: "When contemplating marriage, the most important of human relationships, the Sethites pushed their faith and their godly heritage into the background. When looking for a prospective wife, they didn't ask this question: Will this woman help to make my home a place of godly instruction? They asked only the question that to them was the most important: Is she good-looking?"

This is just one example of how our love for God should show itself as a priority in all of our life decisions.
