In today's reading there wasn't anything that jumped out at me that I should comment on, so I'll use this post to focus on something more from yesterday's reading. Society today is very confused about marriage and sex. Even if they submit to the authority of the Bible they will often misinterpret the "thou shalt nots" into saying something different than what was intended. For example, advocates for homosexuality will say that when homosexuality is condemned in the New Testament, it is addressing impropriety in a specific instance of homosexuality--lust rather than love.
While this and other claims like it are big stretches, a Christian doesn't need to get bogged down in semantics, but can, like Jesus did in Matthew 19:1-11, point critics to the genesis of marriage and sexuality in Genesis 2:18-25. God created man and then woman, a helper for man. When a man and a woman leave their families to officially start a new family (get married), then "they will become one flesh." God's orderly plan is a beautiful one: one man, one woman, sex within marriage, children through the blessing of sex, stability for the children, and the cycle continues for generations. It's as simple as this--anything veering from God's order is sin. "Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate" (Matthew 19:6).
