Jacob's Ladder

Having known the story of Jacob's ladder since childhood it became very easy for me to just read the section without thinking too much about it, so I decided to look into the interpretation of the dream this time. The angels ascending and descending on the ladder/staircase in Genesis 28:12-13 actually conveys a very meaningful message for us. The dream represents the carrying of Jacob's needs to God, and God's assurance being granted to him. In John 1:51 Jesus says he is this ladder upon which the angels ascend and descend. In other words, he is the Mediator between God and man. It is only through his redeeming work that our relationship with God is restored so that we can approach him in prayer and receive his assurances.
