While truth twisting is a favorite pastime today, it is an especially incredible feat when some claim that the Bible doesn't condemn homosexuality. First you have marriage defined as one man and one woman at the very beginning (Genesis 2:24). In today's reading we see very strong language in Leviticus 18:22. God says homosexuality is "detestable" to him. According to the People's Bible, the Hebrew word translated in this way comes from another Hebrew word meaning "to hate or abhor." In Leviticus 20:13 God says the penalty for this sin, under the theocracy of Israel, was to be death. And for those who claim, "well, Leviticus also says don't mix two fibers in your clothes, so we can disregard it," the New Testament restates the seriousness of the sin of homosexuality in Romans 1:26-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.
The good news is all sins are forgiven through Jesus and Christians must always speak this truth in love when calling others to repentance (just as we need to be constantly repenting and thanking Jesus for his gift of salvation). The challenge is calling someone to repentance who denies the truth of the Bible on this matter. That is why it is so important to know God's Word--so that you can clearly share it. That is why seeing so many of my friends and loved ones taking on a "challenge" like this, the daily reading of the Bible, is so encouraging. I know you are growing in the knowledge of God's Word. I encourage you who are participating to "keep on" so that all of us can be a light in an ever-darkening world.
