I thought Joshua 10:14 was interesting. After Joshua prayed "O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon," and that is exactly what happened, this passage states "There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man." The People's Bible basically says that Joshua prays having been "made bold by the Lord's promises." He's not being cocky here, telling God what he thinks he should do. He sincerely knew it would be God's will to grant him this. It makes me think of Mark 11:23-24 where Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
The fact that the passage says "there has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man, " says a lot about Joshua's faith then--he apparently achieved the all but impossible feat of having such faith in God that he could literally shift the laws of nature in this way.
