David's Fall Into Sin
II Samuel 12:14 "But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt." After reading this passage, the severity of David's sin is better understood. It is imperative for us to remember that we do not live our lives in isolation. Our actions will have an impact on others. If a well-respected Christian falls into sin, the world will be quick to point out the hypocrisy of his or her faith. We are reminded of this in Luke 17: 1-3 "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves." Therefore, as Christians, we need to be especially vigilant against the snares of Satan. He will target us, more so than the unbeliever, in the hopes that through our fall into sin many more Christians will also fall.
