Psalm 40

Psalm 40 is another messianic psalm, particularly from verses 6-8 which are quoted in Hebrews 10:5-7 where they are attributed to Christ. There is one line different, however. Where the psalm says "my ears you have pierced" (the 2011 NIV translation has "my ears you have opened"), the Hebrews version says "a body you prepared for me." Apparently what happened (per the People's Bible) is the Hebrews verse comes from the Greek (Septuagint) translation of the psalm. While the literal translation of the verse would be "my ears you have dug out," the Greek version interprets this a step further as God creating a body with ears that listen to and obey his Word.

Also interesting, verses 1-5 can be applied to the resurrection--how God brought Jesus out of the "pit," the grave. This was one of God's greatest wonders (v. 5). Those who hear of it will put their trust in God (v. 4).
