Join the Daily Bible Challenge!

Three easy steps to participate:

1. Purchase The Daily Bible. The best price is online, but it is also available at local Christian bookstores. I recommend hardcover.

2. Read the daily reading.

3. Optional: Return to this site to discuss the readings (consider bookmarking this site so you can easily find it each day).

Reward for Giving

Today's reading has a lot of good passages about how, when we give cheerfully, God rewards us (not necessarily as we might be hoping--with more money--but certainly with his goodness in a variety of ways both here on earth and in heaven). I thought Proverbs 19:17 puts it most interestingly: "He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done."

In commenting on this verse, the People's Bible points us to Luke 14:12-14: "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
