Ahijah's Prophecy

Ahijah prophecies of the split of Israel by tearing a cloth into 12 pieces representing the 12 tribes and saying Jeroboam will get 10 of them. Then he says David's family will continue to have one tribe. Ten plus one is eleven. What about the missing tribe? The answer is that the tribe of Simeon was absorbed into Judah, the tribe that David's family would hold onto (see my previous post).

    Actually, it's a little more complex than I previously stated. The twelve tribes were: Reuben, Simeon, Judah, Zebulun, Issachar, Dan, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin. Of these twelve, three formed the kingdom of Judah during the split between Jeroboam and Rehoboam: Judah, Benjamin, and Simeon. The other nine formed the Northern Kingdom. So I'm not sure exactly how you get ten and one...anyone have any input here?
