In considering the meaning of life under the son, Solomon finds resolution in God. He says that God "has set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). As Romans 1:20 says, "Since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." We have an inborn sense of God yet "cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." This is why God has given us his Word, which tells us what has been and what will be, all built around the account of God's love in saving us from sin through Christ.
Meanwhile finding satisfaction in the work we do here on earth is a gift from God: "That every one may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in his toil--this is a gift from God" (3:13).
Verse 14 says, "I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so men will revere him." Here, again, is a warning not to add to nor subtract from God's Word, but to simply submit to him and revere him.
